camp tejas dining hall

As a part of our desire to serve humanity and provide architectural services to communities in
need, Latitude Architects created the 2010 Community Project where we are donating a grant
of $50,000 in architectural services to a nonprofit organization. Camp Tejas, just outside
Giddings, Texas is the 2010 grant award winner. Camp Tejas’ greatest need is the expansion
and improvement of their campus dining hall where 500 campers are served three meals a day.
The new facility will include a three level, 16,500 SF addition to the existing single story, 6,000
SF dining hall. This expands the current dining and kitchen facilities while also adding much
needed conference and gathering spaces. A dining tower stands at the crossroads between new
facility and old creating a unified main entry. The tower also acts as a way-finding element
throughout the campus. The new facility takes its cues from the local agricultural industry by
emulating the vocabulary and details of existing barn structures around the camp. Visited by
every camper, the new dining hall embodies the identity and heart of Camp Tejas as they feed
the next generation of campers both physically and spiritually.
